Ceramics

Artifacts such as ceramics are invaluable for their clues to the daily life of the sailors aboard the CSS Alabama. While still underwater, the fragile pieces were packed carefully in crates that would isolate and protect each object on its way to the surface. They were then transported in containers filled with seawater back to Cherbourg for further conservation treatment, documentation, and display.
